Peach Fest 5K = Success

Ladies and gentlemen, I’m getting closer to that 10-min consistent mile mark every day.

Well, maybe not the days of this week, as I’ve run about as far as from the couch to the fridge, but you get the idea.

Remember how scared I was with my time for the Peach Fest 5K? How Kelsey and I had run the day before with a 36 (or maybe 37, I can’t remember) minute time? How I just wanted to compete and not worry about the time?

Forget that, because I set a Personal Record!!!

I crossed the finish line at 31:36 – 1:30 better than my previous 5K PR. I was ELATED to say the least. I really thought that I might hit that 30 minute mark, but I did not calculate how long it was from the top of that last hill to the finish line. No problem. I’ll take 31:36 any day.

I didn’t think I’d make it, though, and, truth be told, if it hadn’t been for Kelsey, I wouldn’t have made it. We push each other well, which is good for me, because about halfway in, I was ready to give up. It was hot. It was humid. I was dizzy. Seriously, when I finished the 5K, I didn’t even have the energy to turn my card in. I just ran over to the shade and collapsed for about 15 minutes while my sweet husband refueled me with water and Powerade. And peach ice cream.

I couldn’t even celebrate for those 15 minutes!! (Though, afterwards, I think I made up for it by bragging to everyone who would listen, haha!) But we headed down to the parade downtown (what’s walking half a mile when you’ve already run 3.1?) and sweated some more, though I think it’s highly amusing that it looks like my shirt is drenched with sweat. It’s water that I poured over me…yeah, that’s it….

And, instead of running a trail run this weekend (which I really wanted to do! I loved the last trail run I did!!), I’m heading to my parents’ for fried catfish. Cause nothing says “healthy” more than fish battered and fried and finished off with soft-serve ice cream with chocolate sauce.

Right?

Go girl!!!! Awesome time!! My dad's a track coach, and when I ask him how his team did, he will always say how many personal bests there were...he could care less if they win... Coach Groll would be SO proud of you! :)
