Training: Week Four

Houston, we have a hip problem.

My first 5K is this weekend. YEA!! Totally psyched about it and all that...buuuuttt...my hip hates every part of me. It hates when I walk, and it most certainly hates when I run. I think. We haven't really gotten that far yet.

Apparently, Superman was correct in his statement that I run funny. I did run funny yesterday. It was due to exhaustion and a need to visit the little ladies' room but not wanting to mess with my pace. Then it was probably not helped with the 7-hour car ride to Super Duper University and back (3.5 there, 3.5 back).

Today I need to run two miles. It says so on the schedule. Yes, I could alter the schedule, I assume, and use today as my freebie day. I suppose I should. But Thursday (my official No Exercise Day, according to the schedule) is the day that The Office and Fringe return. I kind of want to get prepared for that. Is it bad that I just want to down a few Excedrin Back and Body pills to get past this so I can run two miles today? And, seriously, two miles at this point is a breeze. Not as easy breezy as one mile, of course (or no miles), but it is not bad.

(My mom at this moment is dialing my number to tell me to take it easy.)

Why does this have to happen THIS week??!!!

do you have good shoes? i got fitted this weekend and they said that hip & knee problems can be caused by shoes that don't have the right kind of support.

Girl, if you haven't yet, Go get you some Asics!!! I had hip issues in Houston, and I went and saw this Iron-man guy/Boston marathon runner (yeah) who owns a running store there...he put me in Asics, and I swear I never looked back.

I have no advice to give you about running shoes or running in general actually, but I will say this, I am pretty psyched about The Office coming back on Thursday. So I wouldn't want to run on that day either.

I think you're going to do great!! When you're running, think of all your blogging buddies cheering you on:)

I can't run for that reason to. I could walk and walk and walk, but not run... hope you're feeling better!

You need to be careful!!! Have you checked with your dr. about your hip?

Please do be careful. :(

I hate to make you tired of hearing that - but I hate to think of a worse more permanent injury...

Ouch. I'm shuttering just thinking about it.

At least you didn't break your toe like I did! What a dope.
Taking two days off will do you no harm if you've been as faithful as you sound like you've been so far, and since you've already logged 2.5 miles on your long run.

It's possible you could be experiencing some IT band issues. It's very common among runners :) I'd google it and see about going some of those stretches. Honestly, I'd probably not run today and see how you feel tomorrow. You WILL be able to do the 5k regardless of whether you complete all the work out this week. You'll be much stronger if you rest an extra day.

I totally recommend a foam roller. It helps relieve so, so much tension and helps heal. Google them. They're a God send.
